Fusion stand on European Commission open door day

On Saturday, May 8th, the European Commission welcomed visitors during its annual Open Door Day. The event in the Brussels Berlaymont-building hosted, amongst others, an information stand on fusion and on the ITER project. The educational Fusion Road Show of FOM Institute Rijnhuizen, one of the ITER-NL partners, was present at the exhibition of the DG Research. Public Information Officers Erik Min and Gieljan de Vries told visitors all about the promise of fusion energy and about the technology to make the fusion reactor ITER a reality.

The Fusion Road Show has been designed as a mix of lecture and science demonstrations, with a focus on a spectacular presentation. It managed to draw large crowds and a wide variety of people to the stand, even in competition with a live robotics contest. During the Open Door Day, more than ten thousand people visited the Commission building. European civil servants, politicians, lobbyists and an interested general audience; a very diverse group of people received the message of fusion with enthousiasm.
